Audi Transmission Problems

Los Angeles is a city of highways. Highway travel is a way of life, part of our daily routines. That is why German cars with excellent manual and automatic transmission options, built for the high speeds of the Autobahn, are popular here. The Audi Allroad Quattro A3, A4, A6, A8, the sporty TT, and the new S4 are all excellent automobiles that give you an advantage on the road.

One of the things that sets Audi apart is that they now offer several different transmission options with their new models. On the new Audi A4 for instance, you can choose a 5 or 6-speed manual transmission, or a 5-speed automatic. Audi also makes the unique “multitronic” transmission, a gearless CVT (continuously variable transmission) that increases the gear ratio smoothly and continuously in proportion to the engine’s torque. Advanced technology like this makes an Audi a superior choice, and you should protect and maintain your car with equally high standards.

General maintenance can go a long way to preventing Audi transmission problems. Sometimes you can keep your car out of the shop just by replacing the transmission fluid. But other problems might require a technician’s attention.

As owners of recent A4’s may have experienced, these cars have been known to present problems. If your A4 can’t shift into second gear, you may have a “sludge” problem with the oil intake of the turbo charger. Save money and take your car to a responsible transmission shop before you rebuilt the entire transmission!

The multitronic transmission has also produced some problems. Some Audi’s shudder, jolt, or lurch as they come to a stop. This can also happen when they accelerate again, as if the gear won’t catch. Sometimes the Audi won’t be able to move for a couple of minutes after a brief stop. Serious problems such as these are not to be taken lightly, and should be addressed sooner rather than later, as they have been known to require replacing the wet multiplate clutch, or even the transmission outright.

If you live in Los Angeles and you have an Audi with a transmission problem, be sure you take your Audi to a trustworthy transmission shop – one with the skill and experience to deal with sophisticated German automobiles.
