Change
your fluid regularly. Not changing your fluid according to the stipulations
in your owner's manual can lead to transmission failure. You can read
our article on how
to change your transmission fluid.
-
Check
the ground for transmission fluid leaks.
-
Make
sure the fluid does not smell and is not burnt.
-
Check
to see if there are obstructions near the radiator and air ducts.
-
Don't
use overdrive in hilly and mountainous terrain.
General
Maintenance and Safety Tips
-
Check
all your hoses and belts regularly, if they are cracked, dry-rotted,
worn, or bulging, replace them.
-
Look
under the car for leaks other than transmission fluid.
-
Check
your vehicle's tires for wear.
-
Keep
the air pressure on your tires at the proper level (indicated on the
tires) for better mileage and a safer drive.
-
Check
fluid levels frequently, especially before taking a long trip.
-
Make
sure your spare tire is ready to go if needed.
-
Buckle
up! Buckle up! Buckle up!
-
Young
or short children should be in the backseat of your car as airbags
can be hazardous to them.
-
Using
a cell phone in the car is not advisable . It distracts your attention
while making calls and hanging up, impairs your hands (in the case
of hand-held phones) and diverts your attention.
-
Don't
eat, put on make up or do anything but drive while behind the wheel.
-
Keep
both hands on the wheel, especially if dealing with snow (well maybe
not in Los Angeles), rain or other hazardous conditions.
-
Anger
leads to accidents! If someone cuts you off or doesn't let you in,
brush it off and take the next safe opportunity.
Test
Yourself:
Do you have your insurance policy information and important phone
numbers in your glove box in case something happens?
Do you know what kind of transmission fluid your car takes?
Have you talked to your teenagers and new drivers in your family about
car safety?
Check your owners'
manual or when you bring your car in, just ask one of our certified
technicians. They will be glad to answer any question you may have.
